BP vs. Owens Corning Shingles: What We Recommend and Why

BP and Owens Corning both offer architectural shingle systems suitable for many East Kootenay homes. We install and are certified with both brands. Our recommendation is based on the specific roof and product—not a blanket claim that one logo is always better.

What matters more than the brand name

The exact product line. Compare like with like. Entry-level, architectural and premium products from the same manufacturer can differ in appearance, features and warranty options.

A complete roof system. Underlayment, eave protection, starter, ridge materials, ventilation and flashing details all affect performance. Premium shingles cannot compensate for poor preparation or installation.

Colour and appearance. View current physical samples outdoors. Colours can look different on a full roof and under Cranbrook’s bright sun than they do on a screen or small indoor sample.

Roof geometry and exposure. Slope, valleys, wind exposure, shade, nearby trees and ventilation concerns help determine the right installation approach.

Current warranty requirements. Manufacturer warranty terms can depend on the selected product, accessory system, installer status and registration. Confirm the current written terms for the exact proposal instead of relying on a general warranty number.

When we may lean toward BP

BP can be a strong fit when the preferred colour, local availability, system components and project budget align well. It is a familiar option on many homes in our region.

Owens Corning can be the better fit when a homeowner prefers a particular colour blend, product feature or complete system option available for the project.
